This is the CV-Resume of Larry Lowenthal, a real estate expert witness who is retained for lawsuits over troubled or failed transactions, many of which name real estate brokers who are charged with malpractice, failure to disclose, negligence, dishonesty, deceptive conduct, violations of Florida statutes and the Realtor Code of Ethics.  Some cases stem from commission disputes.  Depending upon the facts and the law, Larry works for plaintiffs and defendants, and testifies at depositions and trials.

              Larry Lowenthal's CV / Resume 

  • Retained as an expert witness for dozens of lawsuits involving disputes in ten states over troubled real estate transactions, many of which charge brokers with negligence, improper conduct, and failure to meet the standard of care.  Other cases include commission disputes. 

  • Earned a degree in Economics from the University of Chicago.

  • Holds a Florida real estate broker's license.

  • Realtor at South Florida firms for 27 years.  Now an independent broker in North-Central Florida.

  • Hundreds of closed transactions, close to two thousand customers served.

  • Hundreds of hours of continuing education covering Florida law, Realtor ethics, commercial real estate, relocation issues, commercial leasing, fair housing, and financing.
     

              Realtor-related activities

  • Past Member, Professional Standards Committee, sitting on ethics and
    arbitration hearing panels, which act as judge and jury.  Arbitrations
    decide procuring cause:  who earned a commission. (8 years in Broward)

  • Past Member, Chair, Grievance Committee, examining and analyzing over
    250 ethics complaints and arbitration requests (like a grand juror).  (Member
    at least 12 years.) 

  • Past Member, Professional Standards Forum, Florida Association of Realtors,
    in 2007 and appointed again for 2015 calendar year.

  • Persuaded National Association of Realtors that false advertising about
    properties in MLS should be considered unethical, resulting in added Interpretation
    “Case #2-19: Deceptive MLS Information”.

  • Former Member, Government Affairs Committee

  • Past Chair, MLS Committee (Multiple Listing Service).

  • Past co-vice-chair, Communications Committee.

  • Former member, Standard Forms Committee, creating forms and contracts
    for use in transactions

  • Nominated for 2007 "Realtor of the Year" award

  • Conducted a "How to become a better writer" class for Realtors.

              Additional background

  • Vision Broward, member of the Creative Industries Task Force, 2003-2004 and co-sub chair of the “Image” subcommittee. This was a project developed by the Broward
    County Commission

  • Judge for 2004 Silver Knight Awards (music performance category)

  • Past president, vice-president, director of the Rock Creek Homeowners’ Association,  Nearly 2,000 homes in Cooper City. 

  • Former Member of Supervisory & Marketing Committees,  Realtors’ Professional Credit Union.

  • Past member, University of Chicago Alumni Schools Committee, evaluating local students who applied for College admission, 2008-2018

  • Guest columnist on homeowner association issues,  Miami Herald (compensated).

  • Former Adjunct Professor at Broward College teaching Business Writing
    to non-native English speakers (five years).  This was part-time, evenings..

  • Former president, director, trustee of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Advertising Federation during my first career.

                Prior Community experience & recognition includes:

             Personal

Married to Jan, who retired as a school psychologist in South Florida. Our son and his growing family live in Chicago.
